MONTANA, USA · BEST JULY-AUGUST
Glacier National Park
One of the most beautiful places in America. Go before the glaciers are gone.
Why we love it
—A truly unique national park — the scale and variety feel endless even over a full week
—Going-to-the-Sun Road is one of the most spectacular drives we have ever taken as a family
—World-class hiking — including Grinnell Glacier (11.6 miles with four kids — one of our proudest days) and Iceberg Lake
—Wildlife everywhere: black bears, a swimming moose, a grizzly, bighorn rams — all in one week
—Downtown Whitefish is a wonderful base or add-on — shops, restaurants, art studios, and a real rodeo
—The lodges inside and near the park are stunning and add to the whole experience
Our tip
Stay in Essex or near the park boundary rather than in Kalispell — it saves 30–45 minutes each morning that you will absolutely want back. And go early on every hiking day: trails and parking fill up fast by 9am in summer. Scientists believe the remaining glaciers could be gone within 30 years. This one genuinely can't wait.
